Since the Duvernays have always sold their fruit on in the past, their name is not currently well-known in the UK. That keeps the price down, despite the truly exceptional quality—and this 2017 vintage is excellent. The yields were well down, in some cases 50% lower than usual, and yet the quality of the remaining harvest is high. This will likely reflect in future prices, and it will be good to buy the 2017s early.
The Romain Duvernay is not only a bargain, it is delicious. It is perfect with roast grouse, with rich meats such as lamb and roast beef, hearty stews and other game—it loves the flavours of the fruit sauces, raspberry and bramble, which go so well with gamebirds and venison, and it is perfect with strong cheeses, making it a full dinner wine. Drinking well now, it will improve for five years. Our Tasting Panel are deeply impressed by the quality and the extraordinarily good price, commending it to our Members and suggesting enjoying a few bottles now and laying down some cases to enjoy later. Case of 12 bottles.
