Sensational Julien Sunier Morgon 2017: soaring, deep, complex, classy wine from the region’s rising star: case of 12 bottles delivered
Sunier is one of Beaujolais’ brightest young things, making sensational wines from Fleurie and Morgon, and the Tasting Panel love this Morgon. Now on the 2017 vintage, the wine soars, taking the critics by storm and averaging more than 90 points from Masters of Wine across the board.
It is a deep, complex, classy wine, a deep, vivid ruby red with a complex bouquet evoking ripe berries and cherry liqueur, along with floral notes and spice. Silky and focused, it has alluring flavours of sweet black raspberry, spicecake and rose. Gentle tannins and an impressively long finish.
Drinking beautifully now, it is at home in the cellars of several Michelin-starred restaurants, including Claridge’s, Gordon Ramsay’s Hospital Road and Zuma, and our Tasting Panel recommend it. It is organically farmed and a perfect accompaniment to white meats, with French charcuterie or vegetarian dishes containing butternut squash or sweet potato, or on its own: delicious! It will age for up to 10 years.
