San Polo is one of the rising-star estates in Italy’s iconic Montalcino region, from the ‘classic Montalcino Zone’ with the largest contingent of Montalcino’s highest-scoring wines. Set on the coveted eastern, high elevation, cooler side of the appellation, Poggio San Polo is a multi-award-winning estate owned by the highly regarded Marilisa Allegrini—the first woman to receive the accolade of being featured on the cover of the prestigious Wine Spectator.

The San Polo 2017 is a classic Brunello di Montalcino. A deep ruby red with garnet hues, on the nose it reveals very complex notes of prunes, ripe cherry and small red berries, along with violet, aromatic wood and balsamic hints. On the palate it is warm, with a close-knit, full-bodied texture, and a long finish with well-defined tannins.

Perfect with red meat (try with Wagyu steak!), with furred and feathered game, mushrooms and truffles. Excellent with cheese.

Case of six bottles. RRP £402 plus delivery. CCUK Members £293 including UK mainland delivery.
