The fruit for ‘Temporada’ comes from 100-year-old vines in the Vistalba region of Lujan de Cuyo, where high altitudes, clear fresh air and abundant sunshine allow the grapes to thrive. With warm day time temperatures and controlled irrigation the grapes ripen well with full fruit and soft richness, but at 3,000 feet above sea level the cool nights are a blessing to the winemaker because the grapes retain a level of acidity that is so important to producing well balanced quality wines. Native yeasts are used for fermentation and the wines are barrel aged. They make their wine relatively simply, using minimal technology in the winery, allowing the quality of the grapes to shine through.
The result is a rich, classy wine with aromas of blackberries and violets, a mouth-filling, berry-filled palate full of complex flavours, a luscious finish and a touch of spice. The wine is mellow and round, fruity yet dry, and it has a medium to long finish. The Club Tasting Panel recommend it, noting, ‘This is a clear illustration of just how good even the least expensive of the Joyaux Fabre wines based on the Malbec grape can be. At this superb price this wine can easily become one of your favourite everyday wines.’ It is a natural partner for grilled or roast red meats and goes beautifully with lamb. Drinking now, it will continue to improve for three years.
