89-92/100 – Allen Meadows, Burghound

The 2019 Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru Les Narbantons from Domaine Mongeard-Mugneret in Vosne-Romanée is excellent. Awarding 91/100 points, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate names it ‘another success, mingling notes of cherries and plums with hints of spices and mandarin rind. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and round, it’s gourmand and generous, with enough powdery tannin to balance out the sucrosity of the ripe vintage’. High praise indeed, and other critics added more praise.

Awarding 90/100 points, Wine Spectator notes, ‘Dark, spicy and well-marked by black cherry and blackberry fruit notes. More fluid than dense, this unfolds nicely to reveal floral, mineral and spice flavours. Fine balance and very long on the finish. Drink now through 2028.’

This delicious wine has an intense ruby colour. The bouquet is elegant and powerful, dominated by red fruits. Concentrated and full of tannins, it combines character, finesse and elegance. It is drinking well now, as these wines can be drunk while still very young, but it will reach its true excellence when fully mature.

Case of six bottles. RRP £375. CCUK £317 including UK mainland delivery (courier surcharge for Highlands and Islands).
