91/100 points – Falstaff

This Pinot Nero wine by Franz Haas is one of Italy’s best. Light in colour, yet bursting with varietal character on both nose and palate, it has a lovely tannin structure and is not only highly regarded by the international wine critics it is served with due pomp at Murano London, Angela Hartnett’s Michelin-starred Italian restaurant in the Heart of Mayfair at £100 a bottle! For Club Members it’s just over £22 a bottle delivered.

It’s well worth the price. A clear, fine and lively wine, it almost dances over the tongue. The bouquet opens with notes of maraschino cherries and raspberries, marzipan and plum jam, cloves and cinnamon. On the palate, it is fresh and lively, the elegant tannins making it aromatic and round. The wine is juicy and fresh, with excellent concentration and fine raspberry fruit.

The Club Tasting Panel recommend it highly. It pairs beautifully at its Italian roots with a fine cep risotto—it is a delight with wild mushroom dishes, with oregano and basil—and it is also a match made in heaven for roast grouse among other wild game, and with red meats including pork and bacon.
