This is a classy, classic, award-winning 2014 Left Bank Bordeaux—a great vintage from an estate on the Gironde between Margaux and Moulis. Its fortunes are on a rapid rise under winemaking consultant Hubert de Boüard of Chateau Angelus.

Château Arnauld lies between Margaux and Moulis. Formerly the Priory of Arcins and a pilgrimage site on route to Compostella, it was renamed ‘Château Arnauld’ in the 17th century. The wine is in the top ranking ‘Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel’, and winemaking consultant is Hubert de Boüard of Chateau Angelus.

This, the 2014 Chateau Arnauld Cru Bourgeois is a blend of 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot and 10% Petit Verdot. The colour is deep ruby with crimson reflections and as vibrant as the wine itself, with very good clarity. On the nose, it has classic aromas of blackcurrant and cedar accompanied by subtle toasted and smoked notes. The palate is well-structured with intense notes of blackberry and plum. Fleshy, held together by taut tannins and refined tannins. Very good balance overall, with the long and slightly liquorice finish giving class. de Boüard has created a real beauty from this vintage, taking the fruit concentration to its natural limit while preserving real liveliness in the wine.

Case of six bottles. RRP £265. CCUK Members £189 including free UK mainland delivery.
