Charles Heidsieck NV Brut Réserve continues to collect the top Champagne awards for good reason—it’s a stunning Champagne. Among the accolades, Gold Medals at the international wine awards, including the Gold Medal and the Trophy in the recent International Wine Challenge and Gold in the Decanter World Wine Awards and Top 100 from WMA—plus high praise from the critics, for example Wine Spectator: ‘Rich and smoky, offering fine texture and racy acidity with tightly knit flavors of toasted brioche’ —93 points.
Charles Heisieck is a stellar Champagne House because of the unrivalled and consistently high quality of its wines. Founded in 1851 by the man who would become known as ‘Champagne Charlie’, this family-owned House is the smallest of the Grandes Marques. Their size, and commitment to excellence, has been underpinned by a winemaking team that between them have been named ‘Sparkling Winemaker of the Year’ at the International Wine Challenge more than 15 times.
Based in the great city of Reims, Charles Heidsieck is one of the few Houses that are able to use the fabulous chalk ‘crayères’ cellars under the city. The ‘crayères’ were hollowed out during Gallo-Roman times so that the chalk could be used for building. These cellars now provide a perfect atmosphere for the ageing of Champagne.
The entire Charles Heidsieck range is excellent from the Brut Réserve right up to the luxury cuvées Blanc des Millénaires and Champagne Charlie (all of which are available to our Members at advantageous prices). A great believer in the ageability of fine Champagne, Charles Heidsieck ensure that their luxury cuvées drink well for decades.
Their Champagne is also not easy to get hold of. It is never available to supermarkets, the House insisting on it being stocked in only the best independent wine merchants.
This, the multi-award-winning Brut NV, is a radiant pale gold with fine, persistent bubbles, complex pastry aromas, and an opulent and complex combination of ripe apricot, mango and greengages, dried fruits, pistachio and almond. The palate begins with a silky-smooth sensation, developing into ripe fleshy apricot, melon, enticing plum pastry notes and delicate spice. Charles Heidsieck Brut Reserve NV is a perfect balance of freshness and generosity. To achieve the depth and complexity required by the house style, Charles Heidsieck age their Non-Vintage Brut for three years, much longer than the legal requirement of 15 months.
The Champagne is a perfect balance of freshness and generosity and our Club Tasting Panel are among the connoisseurs who highly recommend it—this fine Champagne is on the wine list at the Michelin Star Ritz at £120 a bottle.
