From one of La Giustiniana’s two prized single vineyards comes a particularly elegant expression of Gavi. Lugarara lies at around 300 metres in Rovereto di Gavi, where Cortese grows on grey marl beneath loose, sandy topsoil – a site that produces wines of purity, freshness and beautifully defined fruit.
The newly arrived 2025 Lugarara has already received a Bronze Medal at the Decanter World Wine Awards, continuing this single vineyard’s impressive record with the judges. And it is easy to understand the attraction. A favourable growing season brought excellent ripeness, while cool summer nights preserved the natural acidity and aromatic freshness that are so important to Cortese.
The result is bright, expressive and already drinking beautifully, with white and stone fruits, lime zest and green apple, fresh acidity and impressive structure, finishing with an attractive lingering note of almond.
Classic Gavi di Gavi, certainly – but with the individuality and refinement of a very particular vineyard.

La Giustiniana ‘Lugarara’ Gavi di Gavi 2025 comes from one of this historic estate’s two prized single vineyards at Rovereto di Gavi, where Cortese has been cultivated for centuries. Lugarara lies at around 300 metres above sea level, its south/south-east-facing vines growing on grey marl beneath loose, sandy topsoil – conditions which help give the wine its characteristic purity, freshness and elegant structure.
The 2025 vintage enjoyed a mild spring followed by a warm summer, with importantly cool nights preserving natural acidity and aromatic freshness as the grapes reached optimum ripeness. Hand-picked fruit is gently pressed and fermented at controlled temperature in stainless steel, with no oak to obscure either the character of Cortese or this particular vineyard.
The result is already drinking beautifully: white and stone fruits, lime zest and crisp green apple lead into a fresh, finely balanced palate, with impressive structure and an attractive almond note lingering on the finish. Independent recognition has followed, with the 2025 awarded a high-scoring Bronze Medal at the Decanter World Wine Awards, continuing Lugarara’s excellent record.
This is wonderfully versatile at the table, particularly with fish and shellfish – think crab, scallops, prawns, Dover sole or grilled sea bass – as well as risotto, lighter pasta dishes and simply cooked chicken.
