Jean-Christophe Barbe is a master of the ‘noble rot’. He instructs the youth of Bordeaux in the intricacies of winemaking while running the family property, Château Laville, in Sauternes. Château Delmond is the second wine of Château Laville, and it is delicious.
The 2014 was a great vintage for Sauternes, with some Botrytis in September and plenty in late October. Château Delmond Sauternes 2014 is intense golden in colour with reflections of gold, intense and expressive on the nose, with fresh floral and stone fruit aromas. It has flavours of apricot, honey and peach mix with citrus peel and creamy notes on the palate. Medium to full in body with refreshing acidity to balance the lingering sweet finish, the wine is rounded, rich, fat and long, with a finish that is clean and fresh.
A perfect dessert wine to accompany dark chocolate and strong cheeses, it is a gorgeous match for foie gras.
