Parker writes: ‘An excellent wine . . . Tasty, round and lush . . . a seductive style of wine to drink during its first 7-10 years of life. Drink: 2013 – 2023.’ Suckling (awarding 92 points): ‘A wine with sweet strawberries and raspberries on the nose. Full body, with ultra-fine tannins and a delicious finish.’ In awarding their Gold Medal, the Sommelier Wine Awards judges noted: ‘Bold and fruit-driven, a delicious balance’, ‘Plummy fruit on the nose, followed by fresh, crushed fruit and blueberry notes on the palate’. ‘Leafy, floral, with damson notes, bright acids and a lovely violet-scented finish’. Meanwhile Decanter had already scored the wine at 93 points, noting, ‘Forward new oak on the nose with vanilla, powerful black fruits and violets. Rich, flamboyant, concentrated, complex and spicy, with bags of vigour, tight and structured, peppery and long. Very, very good.’
All in all, Larose Perganson winemaker Frank Bijon is producing a Cru Bourgeois wine in the Haut-Médoc, on the borders of both Pauillac and St-Julien, which rivals the Classed Growths of the Médoc. In fact he produces consistently award-winning wines at a fraction of the price of his illustrious neighbours. The 2010 is drinking beautifully now, it will cellar for another six to nine years—and our Club Tasting Panel recommend it highly.
