Just a few hundred metres from the celebrated vineyards of Pétrus lies Château Moncets, where the exceptional 2022 vintage has produced a beautifully accomplished Lalande-de-Pomerol – and one that is already drinking deliciously. Awarded an outstanding 94/100 by Decanter, this predominantly Merlot Right Bank Bordeaux impressed the CountryClubuk Wine Tasting Panel just as strongly: tasted blind before lunch, it was unanimously approved for the Club Cellar, with the Panel particularly praising its silky tannins and describing the wine simply as “exceptional”.
There is ripe cherry and plum fruit, floral lift, spice and a lovely mineral dimension, with concentration and structure balanced by freshness and purity. The great pleasure of the 2022 is that all this quality does not require years of patience: the tannins are already beautifully integrated and the wine is thoroughly enjoyable now, although there is ample structure for further development in the cellar.

Situated in Lalande-de-Pomerol, just a few hundred metres from the celebrated vineyards of Pétrus, Château Moncets occupies an enviable position on the doorstep of Pomerol itself. Its predominantly clay-rich terroir is particularly suited to Merlot, which accounts for 89% of the 2022 blend. The result is a wine offering much of the generosity, refinement and supple texture associated with this distinguished corner of Bordeaux, while remaining remarkably accessible by comparison with its famous neighbours.
The CountryClubuk Wine Tasting Panel unanimously approved the 2022 for the Club Cellar, describing it as “exceptional” and particularly admiring its silky tannins. Ripe cherry and plum are joined by graphite, gentle spice and floral notes, with excellent concentration, freshness and a long, harmonious finish. It captures exactly what we admire in modern Right Bank Bordeaux: richness without heaviness, structure without austerity and elegance throughout.
The wine spends 12 months in French oak, one-third new and two-thirds one-year-old barrels.
