Stylish Handwoven Donegal Tweed Jacket by Magee: beautifully tailored in green salt and pepper

£279.00

For a long time heavyweight handwoven Irish tweed was the closest thing to a bulletproof vest against wind and rain. Now the tweed is still handwoven, still warm and windproof—but it is medium weight and the tight, warm weave still resists wind, rain, mist and frost. It is also forgiving: it functions, feels good, and looks right, no matter what you do to it. And in the case of this particular tweed, it also looks unusual and very beautiful: a pleasure to own.

That stylish ‘pepper and salt’ fleck has a base of moss green with dashes of subtle mixed colours which mean that it is highly versatile, matching every colour and style from cords and jeans to smart wool trousers and cavalry twills.

Still woven in a weaver’s cottage, the cloth is part of an unbroken tradition in Ireland going back centuries. It is washed in the peaty River Eske to soften the fibres, so the texture feels comfortable from the first time you wear it, and it just looks better as time goes on.

The jacket is beautifully tailored and hand finished so it looks made to measure, and it is cut in flattering two-button style, with two side vents, two front pockets, flapped and jetted, and breast welt pocket. It is fully lined in claret satin and has four interior pockets, one buttoned for security, and carries a signed label as authentic Donegal tweed.
