IN the early 1980s Tom Dodd Noble and Adam Macmillan, the grandson of Prime Minister Harold Macmillan, were racing cars at Le Mans and owned a garage in Kensington named Noble Macmillan. In 1980, Tom went to buy a leather photo frame at a certain famous emporium and was stunned by the price. Unable to find any frames of the same quality, and knowing someone who could make them much cheaper, it occurred to Tom that Noble Macmillan could set up a profitable business.

A few months later, boxes of hand-stitched, surprisingly affordable photo frames arrived at 9 Elvaston Mews, London, soon followed by impressive albums.
By 2005, nine out of 10 of the country’s grandest homes possessed a Noble Mac-millan album, visitor’s book or journal. The tucked-away shop remained an un-discovered gem—but Noble Macmillan’s customers found it increasingly difficult to keep the source of their beautiful books a secret after Tom Fleming, member of one of Britain’s oldest banking dynasties, bought the business in 2007.

Much remains unchanged. In the shop, the jacks that once held the infamous Le Mans car, and the inspection pit, are still in evidence, and so are the quality and value for money for which Noble Macmillan became known. The Original Visitors Book we have chosen is part of Noble Macmillan history.

They have been producing them for more than 20 years and they are the finest, most classical visitors’ books available anywhere. The spine and corners are bound by hand in racing green British hide with gold tooling. They are engraved on the cover in gold and the luxurious cream plain pages are also gilded. Each book is gift boxed and tied with a ribbon.
