The spirit, grace and athleticism of the English Thoroughbred are captured here in a limited edition bronze by David Geenty, one of Europe’s leading equine sculptors.
Portrayed at the gallop, this is a real Thoroughbred horse. Within that handsome frame we feel there is all the energy and speed to undergo that supreme test for horse and jockey on the Flat—a Derby runner perhaps. A horse must have speed to get into a good position early in that race for the first bend to the right and uphill. It must have good balance to keep its place as the course sweeps round to the left downhill and around Tattenham Corner. It must have the stamina to finish uphill and cope with the camber of the track.
A Derby runner? A winner? Well, perhaps, but then again not. Geenty knows his horse, inside and out, and imbues him with the ‘jizz’ that brings any sculpture to life and makes the viewer dream. All who love and understand the special place of the horse in general, and the English Thoroughbred in particular, will covet this large and impressive limited edition bronze.
Geenty is an international wildlife sculptor whose eye for the horse is highly regarded (his equine work is exhibited in the acclaimed Kentucky Museum of Racing History, among others), and this superb equestrian bronze reaffirms his reputation. It will be the showpiece of any room, spotlit on a plinth, or simply on the mantelpiece or the dining table, admired by sportsmen and connoisseurs alike.
It weighs 2.3kg, it is 375mm (15in) wide, and it is in a limited edition of 50.
