Join the Royal Choral Society for a celebratory concert for the King’s Coronation, marking the choir’s own 150th anniversary, in the Royal Albert Hall, London. This will be a thrilling, heart-soaring, joyous experience. And if you love to sing you can join in ‘fortissimo’ in Parry’s coronation anthem, ‘I Was Glad’, with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the mighty 999-pipe organ, under the baton of Music Director Richard Cooke.
Since its first concert in the Hall on May 8, 1872, the Royal Choral Society—named by Queen Victoria—has won world acclaim. This celebratory afternoon concert will showcase its choral repertoire, performing works by Handel (Zadok the Priest and Hallelujah Chorus), Mozart (Ave Verum Corpus), Dvorak (Eia Mater), Verdi (Dies Irae from Requiem), Elgar (Nimrod from Enigma Variations), Holst (The Hymn of Jesus), Coleridge-Taylor (Hiawatha’s Wedding Feast) and more, including some surprises.
Parry’s ‘I Was Glad’ will bring the concert to a glorious finale, with a choir on stage and in the auditorium of more than 1,000 voices.
This will be a spectacular way to celebrate the Coronation, to revel in the sheer joy of singing, and to raise the roof of the Royal Albert Hall. The performance is on Sunday, May 7, 2023, starting at 2.30pm, and we have reserved a limited number of excellent Stalls tickets so our Members can be there. The price is £40.50 plus £1.50 booking fee. Please call the Member Services team on 020 7399 2960 to book your tickets.
