The first Spanish colony in the New World (where some believe Christopher Columbus’s ashes still remain), the Dominican Republic contains the Caribbean’s largest lake, its four highest mountain peaks, its biggest city—and its finest unspoilt white-sand beaches and most natural landscape.
It also contains the most dynamic sports complex in the region—and this new arrangement is perfect for our sporting Members. For all whose passion is world-class golf, or polo, or sporting clay shooting, or sailing or deep-sea fishing—as well as the gentle Caribbean life and all its laid-back pleasures, fresh food and drink—this really is paradise.
The interior of the island itself is a step back in time: narrow roads wind their way through villages and sugar plantations (the island’s major crop), and the wildlife and landscape are rich and varied, from stunning mountain retreats to wildlife reserves filled with pelicans and blue lagoons. On the south-east coast are the island’s best beaches, our new Club—and a veritable hotspot of fabulous sport.
Los Altos Condo Residences is a secluded, luxurious private villa complex within the mighty Casa de Compo (Country House), whose 11 square miles of grounds are devoted to sporting pleasures. It holds no fewer than four world-famous golf courses—Teeth Of The Dog is considered the number-one course in the Caribbean—an equestrian centre with 150 riding horses and 150 polo ponies, a 245-acre sporting clay shooting centre laid out to simulate in-the-wild sporting shooting, deep-sea fishing for wahoo, tuna, kingfish, sailfish, marlin and barracuda, and a 90,000 sq m marina and yacht club. There are also 14 swimming pools, 13 tennis courts, nine restaurants of varying cuisines, spas, theatres, boutiques—and a private white-sand beach among the many beautiful beaches which ribbon the coast.

Golfers might like to be there in November for the major tournament, polo aficionados from November to April for the season. The weather , as usual for the Caribbean, divides between the dry season (December to April) and the wet (May to October). The hurricane season is June to November.
