These Club Lounges are in excellent locations. The newly-built Grange St Paul’s Hotel is directly opposite St Paul’s Cathedral, minutes from the London Stock Exchange and the St Paul's underground, and Grange City Hotel is a few steps from Tower Hill underground, Tower Bridge and the Tower of London itself.

Not only will you have complimentary access to these dedicated Club Lounges, but you will enjoy complimentary beverages (non alcoholic) and, depending on the time of day when you visit, light continental breakfast, afternoon tea, or canapés in the evening. And these VIP Club Lounges are usually available only to hotel guests at an additional fee.

The Club Lounges are open 24 hours, giving you great flexibility if, for example, you have arrived in London early for an appointment, have a late train to catch, or are working with overseas clients in different time zones.

Access to these excellent facilities is usually available only to hotel guests (who pay an additional £55 plus VAT at Grange St Paul's and £49 plus VAT at Grange City, per visit). As part of the benefits of your membership of CountryClubuk, your visits are free of charge.

Our new CountryClubuk claret has just arrived, and it is delicious. A St-Emilion wine made from vines which march with those of the prestigious Château Figeac, it has real quality and is highly recommended by Master of Wine Derek Smedley, co-chairman of the influential International Wine Challenge and a member of the Club Tasting Panel. He scores it 90 points (out of 100), and a Silver Medallist.

It also happens to be the Club Claret at the Carlton Club, the oldest, most elite, and most important of all London clubs, whose members have numbered our most illustrious Prime Ministers, including Sir Winston Churchill. Current members who will be enjoying this noble claret include our present Prime Minister and most of the Cabinet.

A 2008 made by Michel Bouchereau, an established name in St-Emilion, this red wine has superb rounded flavours, and yet is subtle enough to allow the taste of the fruit to come through without drowning it in tannins. The wine owes its success to the superb terroir, its vines growing on land that has been qualified as ‘equal to many of France’s Grands Crûs’. It is ready to drink now, has the class and pedigree of a French classic, is made by a classic Bordeaux winemaker, yet at just over £8 a bottle delivered it is literally half the price it should be.

The Tasting Panel unanimously loved the wine and as with our previous Club claret, thought it must be the most expensive in the line-up of candidates; they were surprised to find that it was not. Derek was keen to tell us after the Tasting, ‘The black fruit mix on the nose is sweet, lots of cassis and bramble. Ripe fruit and fine tannins give richness of flavour on the palate with, behind the black fruit, sweetness and freshness. 90/100.’

Made from a classic St-Emilion-style Bordeaux combination of Merlot (80%), Cabernet Sauvignon (15%) and Cabernet Franc (5%), aged in French oak barrels, the wine is dark, rich, supple and gorgeous, with a smooth balance and fine finish, generous and full-bodied.
