Newest, smartest, latest Samsung LCD/LED TV, £150 off

samsung425a

This is the smartest TV on the market. It has the best picture ever seen in a TV, it has the slimmest screen, and is probably the best TV money can buy. The critics are raving about it—so we thought Members would like an exclusiveClub deal on this state-of-the-art new TV.

samsung180It’s the brand new Samsung UE46D5520 LCD/LED HD 1080p 46in TV with built-in Freeview HD. So sleek at less than 3cm it is slimmer than a picture frame, yet it packs in the most advanced technology—and it is easy to operate. It is currently selling as a ‘New Arrival’ in John Lewis (‘never knowingly undersold’) at £1,049. Your Club price is £899 with free UK mainland delivery, saving you £150.

The slim dimensions are made possible by LED backlighting technology. LED lights use much less energy than standard LCD and offer more precise control of colour, contrast and clarity. Full HD 1080p is the purest form of high definition a television can display. This all leads to a smoother, more film-like image—it is the best possible picture for sport and films. It also consumes less power than a traditional LCD.

sideTechnologically speaking, with a 1080p signal the information that makes up an image is displayed progressively, all at once, rather than in an interlaced fashion. It also offers greater contrast ratios—blacks seem blacker—leading to a sharper image. On the entertainment side, it gives you access to HD broadcasts courtesy of built-in Freeview HD so you can view subscription-free HD broadcasts without the need for an external box.

All in all, the Samsung D5520 brings the world into your living room—and Samsung’s Smart TV platform provides a gateway to entertainment ranging from video to music, social networking, news and games. Buy it now and this summer’s sports—and the Olympic Games—will take on a whole new dimension. We have stocks currently, but it will sell out soon.

Samsung UE46D5520 LCD/LED HD 1080p 46in television with built-in Freeview HD. RRP £1,049. CCUK £899. Save £150. Order.

Magical nights in a suite amid a palm grove in Morocco
marakesh comp

Magical Marrakesh: the sights, sounds and scents of North Africa. Sheer bliss: and to get the most out of it, it's a good idea to stay in the cool of the city’s lush Palmeraie, surrounded by palm groves and pools, and we have a new hotel recommendation here—the fabulous Les Deux Tours.

With its vaulted ceilings, beimat tiles, deep pools and tinkling fountains, Turkish bath and massage, this is a small paradise. From here you can visit the souk or explore the desert. Play golf or relax with a book and a glass of mint tea, or something stronger—the Moroccans are reassuringly unfundamentalist about that sort of thing. The food is fresh and delicious, whether French or the local tagine, cooked by a Michelin-starred chef, while the hotel itself is a delight, set in some of the loveliest gardens. The independent reviews are unreservedly excellent.

The scene is Moroccan in concept—serene, spacious and sedate—with superb comfort and service. This trip would make a perfect break from September to Spring, so we have arranged two Blue Ribbon deals, each for four nights, staying from September 8 to 12 and from September 15 to 19. Choose these nights, or tell us your preferred dates. Your exclusive Club rates beat all others: for you as a Member, a Junior Suite is £117 per night for two, including breakfast and VAT, instead of the usual £177. To be first to book this limited offer, call Member Services on 020 7935 0888.

Fabulous tanzanite, diamond and gold pendant

tanThis large and very beautiful oval-cut tanzanite jewel, with its gorgeous deep blue and fine aura of purple, is the stunning centre piece of this new diamond cluster pendant from Hatton Garden. It is beautifully set off by diamonds and 18ct white gold, and looks simply wonderful.

Tanzanite has of course been found in only one place in the world—Tanzania, in the foothills region of Mount Kilimanjaro—this rarity makes it a jewel which, combined with its spectacular beauty and its affinity with the New York jewellers Tiffany, gives it a special fascination.

This large tanzanite—a high AAA in quality—is prong set within .30 carats of diamonds in 18ct white gold, and we have seen a similar piece in Bond Street selling for twice the retail price we have here. The Club price, direct from its international jeweller, is £1,595, for our Members only, and we have only one.

The pendant is fully hallmarked in England and carries an insurance certificate at the full retail price, together with a full money-back guarantee and comes with a matching 18in hallmarked 18ct white gold chain in a smart presentation case. Code TP04GA03. RRP £3,400. CCUK £1,695. Order Tanzanite, Diamond and 18ct Gold Pendant with Chain.

Top ticket deal for Alan Bennett hit, 'Betty Blue Eyes'

betty

Here is a funny, heartwarming new musical adaptation of Alan Bennett's 'A Private Function', featuring Sarah Lancashire, Reece Shearsmith and a pig with the voice of Kylie Minogue (yes, really).

Set in 1947, just before the wedding of the then Princess Elizabeth and Philip Mountbatten, its plot on the dual themes of recession and royal matrimony is timely.

Betty is the adorable pig who is being illegally reared to ensure that local dignitaries can celebrate the Royal Wedding with a lavish banquet while everybody else makes do with Spam. This utterly British musical, full of eccentric characters, has a witty score and a marvellous cast.

‘Witty, rude, lovable, warm, dramatic, hilarious. A new smash musical is born.’ writes Libby Purves in The Times, while Charles Spencer in the Telegraph calls the show ‘entertainment at its very best’.

Playing at the Novello Theatre, Aldwych, London WC2B 4LD. Best tickets are increasingly difficult to get hold of, so we have reserved best seats—those priced at £62.50—for Members for the evening performance on Friday, June 10. CCUK £39.50, saving £23. Click here to book now, or call Member Services on 020 7935 0888. Ask about our best hotel-theatre breaks.

The new jewelled flipflops by Aftershock of London

sandal 435sandal200

With this summer promising to be a scorcher, jewelled flip-flops are high on the fashion agenda. These crystal-and-gem-studded beauties are fabulous—dazzling enough to be worn with anything from a floaty dress at a ball to the shortest of shorts.

The first two (above) are this season’s colours personnified: orange (Tangerine Dream) and turquoise (Blue Lagoon). The next two are for girls who love their toes to twinkle (right, above)—crystal and earth tones in Villingili at the top, left, followed by Ventia with its Swarovski crystal jewels (far right). The third, Biba (near right), is pure Sixties flowers-at-your-feet: perfect for Summer whites and retro floral looks.

The fourth (right, lower), Kanuhura, with its touch of turquoise and agate semi-precious stones, recreates the look in country colours—great for a sophisticated 'earth mother' style.

All are beautifully handmade in leather, with hand-sewn gems and adornments: a great way to jazz up any outfit. Sizes 3 to 8. RRP £70. CCUK £47. Order Jewelled Flipflops by Aftershock of London.

Excellent new rosé for your summer enjoyment, just £89

ja

rose250To find a good yet inexpensive rosé is not easy—much of it is not that good—but this delicious 2009 rosé from Bordeaux is a gem.

Bordeaux rosé can be dark—but not this 2009 Le Rosé de Puygueraud from Côtes de Francs. It is a gorgeous pink colour and subtle in flavour. The Club tasting panel found it not only refreshing but well balanced, with hints of strawberries on the nose and fresh, delicate red fruits on the palate.

Château Puygueraud is owned by the great Thienpont family of négociants, who also own Vieux Château Certan, one of the best-known châteaux in Pomerol. The patriarch, George Thienpont, bought Puygueraud, which dominates the whole appellation, in 1946, and slowly began replanting the vineyards. In 1983, the first wine was produced, and the vineyard has never looked back. Jancis Robinson has called the Thienpont family ‘pioneers of the modern Côtes de Francs’.

Perfect for summer drinking, with food or without, this is a lovely wine and at £89 a case delivered, instead of £105, it’s a rather good deal.

Case of 12 bottles. Code RP01EP01. RRP £105. CCUK £89. Order 2009 Le Rosé de Puygueraud.

Finest rose veal from Lakeland: highly recommended

vealfarm

vealsteakEating rose veal raised in this country is no different to eating spring lamb, and the incredibly good veal we have chosen for Members comes from Roger and Carole Mason’s Heaves Farm in Lakeland.

The fact that this is Westmorland's ‘Best Managed Farm’, and the veal was selected by Rick Stein’s Super Heroes Rachel Godwin and Jeanette Edgar at Alternative Meats in Shropshire, means our Members are getting the very best available—the veal was featured on TV’s Market Kitchen’s Big Adventure and its credentials are proudly displayed in the Harrods Foodhall, but at several times the Club price of course.

veal showThe calves are reared on nutrient-rich saltmarsh land along the banks of the River Gilpin, part of the Morecambe Bay Site of Special Scientific Interest, the grass is superb and the stock are all reared in welfare-friendly conditions. Their rose veal has won accolades from the chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, among others.

Good welfare produces healthy pink meat with a white fat covering—and this meat is truly tender, lean and succulent (so please be careful not to overcook it). Few butchers sell veal—so this is our service to Members who are veal-lovers. It includes mouthwatering and tender steaks (even the rump is tender), delicious thin-cut creamy calves liver and escalopes for schnitzel. All quick and mouthwateringly good summer eating.

The Lakeland Rose Veal Hamper contains 2 packs of calves liver (total 600g), 4 escalopes (680g), 4 sirloin steaks (880g), 4 quick-fry steaks (300g in total) and 8 rump steaks (2.2kg). The total weight is 4.66 kilos. RRP £78. CCUK £59.50. Order Lakeland Rose Veal Hamper.

Ultra-contemporary Ceres pearl and silver choker

goldThis contemporary Ceres pearl and sterling silver choker on an Italian collar is a bold and unique design: so simple, it is highly effective and flattering, accentuating a beautiful neck and shoulders.

Rubber used in jewellery is cutting-edge Italian, spearheaded by Marzio Fiorini, whose work is in the American Museum of Modern Art. This piece is much more restrained than some! Wear it as a fashion piece any time—but it is extremely sophisticated with a dress for a cocktail party or dinner, and adds personality to a shirt and city suit.

The options are endless, and always stylishly modern. Perfect now with summer’s taupes, nudes and whites, it will go on into autumn and winter when the minimalist look and the rich colours return. We love it.

The soft Italian rubber collar is 16in and paired with sterling silver accessories and clasp; the Majorcan pearl is 14mm diameter. Choose gold pearl and cappuchino collar or black pearl with cioccolato. Code CC05CC04. RRP £75. CCUK £35. Order Ceres pearl and sterling silver choker.

Ticket offer for Mint Polo in The Park, The Hurlingham Club

polo

Polo returns to the Hurlingham Club in London in June for an annual sporting and social occasion to rival any in the Calendar. The three-day Mint Polo in The Park event (Friday, June 3 to Sunday, June 5) promises to be a great day of high-goal polo, Champagne, Pimm’s, shopping and enjoyment, and our Members can enjoy it at the special Club Grandstand ticket price starting at £15.

One of Britain’s most prestigious private members’ clubs (it has a 15-year waiting list), Hurlingham retains its English traditions and its 42-acre parkland setting in the middle of London is a typically English place to be on a summer’s day, whether you love polo or simply enjoy a good day.

Pitchside bars, a luxury shopping village, Harrods food court, Veuve Clicquot Champagne Garden, Pimms Bar and a Kids Zone with Shetland Polo Derby (Sunday) will all add to the pleasures.
