Recommended 2007 Côtes du Rhône for a mere £99 |
The 2007 was one of the standout vintages in the Rhône Valley and Château Correnson, in the Lirac appellation in the southern Rhône, produced a highly-rated wine which the Tasting Panel is delighted to recommend to Club Members.
The family-run Château has a strict policy of hand picking, focusing on quality, not quantity. ‘We believe they have succeeded in their aim with this vintage,’ was the Tasting Panel verdict, with Master of Wine and International Wine Challenge co-chairman Derek Smedley noting, ‘On the nose there is a lovely mix of flavours, first bright red fruit, redcurrant and strawberry, then sweeter bramble. The palate has attractive weight of flavour at the start, and becomes more elegant towards the end. 90/100.’
Drinking perfectly now, it is an ideal partner to stews and game. Case of 12 bottles. Free UK mainland delivery. Code CR01EP01. RRP £123. CCUK £99. Order Cotes du Rhône, Château Correnson 2007.

The new Patio de Los Leones Shawl, only £39 |
One of the new season’s most practical fashion statements is all about keeping warm using vibrant patterned shawls. The new bold shawls are a punchy accent to solid black, grey and neutral colours—a great way to work in a fun pattern without going over the top—and our new Patio de Los Leones Shawl is fabulous.
It is elegantly styled in a trio of shades of coffee, chocolate and grey/beige, its border decorated with more than 40 large hand-sewn faceted beads—and its colour palette is based on the famous Patio of the Lions in the Alhambra, with its tiles, marble and friezes (hence the name).
So striking with everything from trousers to a jacket, dress or suit, it adds flair to the rich dark hues of late-winter as well as the nudes and beiges of spring—this is a piece that will take you from one season to the next.
Wrap it around several times or tie once loosely past the nape of your neck to give it a darling drape. Wear it over a jacket for extra warmth, or instead of a coat or jacket when you think the weather has warmed up—but you are not sure! It is perfect for evenings, all year round.
This lovely shawl is 2ft 5in (74cm) wide by 6ft 10in (208cm) long and is new wool (with a touch of viscose). Code LL01AS05. RRP £75. CCUK £39. Order Patio de Los Leones Shawl.

A necklace of natural lavender pearls and gold |
Lavender pearls are enthralling. If you have never seen them before, you will be mesmerised by them. They are truly natural, coming straight from the shell in the most beautiful shades of lavender, and our pearl jeweller in the Hawaiian Isles has selected the finest and matched each pearl in this lovely new necklace, the Aloha. It is wonderfully romantic and unique.
At 9-10mm in diameter, the pearls are exceptionally large; they are also beautiful and of very high quality—lustrous and round, with the slightest ‘birthmarks’ to show they are the world’s only natural gem. The necklace fastens with a classic pearl clasp in 14ct yellow gold and the necklace length is 17 1/2in (44.5cm), which looks perfect with everything from a low-cut dress to a cashmere top (it also goes beautifully with this season’s new pastel shades of lilac, soft green and nude).
The necklace arrives in a smart presentation case and can be sent with your personal message if you wish. Code LP17CC04. RRP £625. CCUK £295. Order natural 9-10mm lavender pearl Aloha Necklace.

| ‘The best dog beds’ by KennelMate, up to 54% off |
A good-looking, hard-wearing, comfortable dog bed is an important item, so we went looking for some we could recommend to Members and their dogs, and here is the result: KennelMate. We know they are comfortable and warm—our own dogs tell us so.
Added to this, the letters of praise from multifarious owners of sporting dogs and companions adds its own testament. ‘They wash well and they don't wear out … the best dog beds we have ever had,’ wrote Mark Chandler, who summed up the general mood. Six greyhounds, given a Jumbo-size bed, ‘all slept soundly’, according to Lisa Rees. Wow!
The beds have a removable cover made of smart, tough, tear-resistant material, encasing a nest-shaped thermal cushion. This gives dogs comfort and warmth, and they are hygienic, the cover being washable and resistant to odour and mites. Choose from seven colours: Buckingham green, forest green, Trafalgar blue, Baltic blue, poppy red, chestnut or chocolate. The top and bottom can be different colours.

Legally Blonde—with free Champagne!

The sober theatre reviewer from the Daily Telegraph, Charles Spencer, tried and failed to dislike the new musical comedy Legally Blonde (Savoy Theatre, Strand, WC2).
Hoping, in his own words, to ‘put the boot in’, he was bowled over by this ultimate girls’ night out and awarded it four stars and the accolade, ‘A huge hit … among feel-good musicals, Legally Blonde is right up there with Mamma Mia! and Hairspray.’ Paul Taylor at the Independent raved, ‘Perfection. Ridiculously enjoyable from start to finish’, and in the Mail on Sunday Georgina Brown called it ‘hysterically funny’.
What’s it all about? Based on the hit movie starring Reese Witherspoon, Legally Blonde the Musical is an award-winning Broadway hit led by Tony Award-winning director and Olivier Award-nominated choreographer Jerry Mitchell (Hairspray). It follows the antics of college sweetheart Elle Woods—brilliantly played by Sheridan Smith—who though blonde turns out to be far from dizzy when, with her chihuahua, Bruiser, under her arm she swops a career in fashion for a law degree at Harvard in an attempt to woo her man.
This all-singing, all-dancing performance takes its audience from the social whirl of Californian campus life to Harvard’s Halls of Justice and a happy ending.
Our Members can book all tickets through the Club, receiving a complimentary glass of Champagne with every top-price ticket—£60 from Monday to Friday and £62.50, Saturday and Sunday—at all performances (Monday, Wednesday-Saturday, 7.30pm, Thursday and Saturday 2.30pm, and Sunday 3pm).

Italian opera and fine food in Mayfair

If you appreciate Italian opera and Italian food, and you can be in London on the night of Friday, March 12, then join us at Avista in Grosvenor Square, Mayfair, for an evening to remember.
The midsummer spectacular combines the best Italian cucina by acclaimed Venetian chef Michel Granziera, with an evening of operatic entertainment by Opera d’Amici. Soprano Hannah Kirk (D’Oyly Carte), tenor Jim Heath (Scottish Opera, English Festival Opera, London City Opera) and pianist Peter Bailey will delight diners with excerpts from La Boheme, La Traviata, Turandot and other classics.
This excellent evening will take place in the Avista Restaurant (two AA rosettes) at the Millennium Hotel London Mayfair. The evening will begin at 7pm (with a complimentry glass of Prosecco for our Club Members), followed by a delicious four-course meal with wine and coffee, to the accompaniment of operatic arias and duets throughout the evening.
Chef Michele Granziera’s Opera Menu will start with seared tuna with apple, orange and ginger sauce, or dry-cured bresaiola, rocket, goat cheese sauce and walnuts, or beetroot salad with orange dressing, followed by a pasta starter of ravioli with spinach and ricotta. The main course is a choice between pan-fried cod with lentils and peppers sauce or lamb shank with mashed potato and Swiss chard, then, to follow, yoghurt mousse with raspberries, cinnamon crumble and white chocolate ice cream.
The evening costs £45 per head (including entertainment and food but not drinks, other than the glass of Prosecco), and places are of course limited. To make your reservations, call Member Services on 020 7935 0888 or click here.
Win lunch for two at Corrigan’s Mayfair, Restaurant of the Year 2010 (it's official, twice over!)

Win lunch for two at the celebrated Corrigan's in Mayfair, winner of both the AA London Restaurant of the Year and the Decanter/Laurent Perrier Restaurant of the Year, 2010.
The judges raved about this excellent restaurant, which is the inspiration of Richard Corrigan (of Bentley's and Lindsay House). He serves traditional hearty food with plenty of Irish charm, just a short walk from Hyde Park. The restaurant is relaxed and unpretentious with comfortable seating and décor inspired by hunting lodges and game. Seasonal dishes include game broth with livers on toast; grouse pie and ceps; and daube of pork with turnips and apricots. There are vegetarian options too and some exceptional puddings.
Corrigan's is a restaurant for those who really enjoy good food and has already become a London classic. The winner and guest will enjoy the three-course Market Menu and a carafe of wine each, midweek.
Corrigan's Mayfair is at 28 Upper Grosvenor Street, London W1K 7EH. The prize is worth £54 and can be booked and taken until June 30, 2010, subject to availability when booking. All Members are entered in the draw, but to double your chances of winning, click here by the closing date, March 21, 2010. Not sure you will win but want to enjoy this good food anyway?
