Prime 360g Dover
sole from 'Britain’s Best Fishmonger' |
Dover sole: golden and toasty
on the outside, firm and pristine within, its flesh
sweet and delicious. It is the chef’s perfect
fish—and ours are chosen specially for Members
each day by the marvellous Quayside Fish, holders
of the ‘Britain’s Best Fishmonger’
award. Quayside are an artisan fishmongers in the
pretty Cornish fishing village of Porthleven, and
they choose the pick of the new season’s
catch for us—the sweetest, best Dovers weigh
less than 1lb, so we will have the prime 12oz fish,
ideal for serving a whole fish to each guest.
Dover sole is just coming
into its perfect season now. It boasts a delicate
flavour and firm flesh, and is the simplest fish to
cook—best sautéed on the bone as it is
in the best London restaurants. This simple but perfect
fish makes an ideal main course for a summer dinner
party.
Quayside Fish run their business
with an eye to conservation. They buy only local fish
from boats which go out to sea for a day at a time—no
netted fish, only line caught, and all Cornish fish,
where the waters are fresh and clear. Day boats are
not only the more sustainable way to fish, they provide
the freshest catch (it has not been sitting on a boat
at sea for a week or more).
Our new Prime Dover Sole Box
includes six 360g (12oz) whole fish, on the bone as
it should be, gutted, with top skin removed ready
for cooking, individually vacuum packed and sent out
fresh. To cook, simply bake, grill or pan fry with
butter, olive oil, onions, garlic and lemon juice.
Superb! Code DS01QF10. RRP £99. CCUK £69.

Italian Opera Evening in London's Mayfair
If you appreciate Italian opera and Italian
food, and you can be in London on the night of Friday, June 26,
then join us at Avista in Grosvenor Square, Mayfair, for an evening
to remember.
The midsummer spectacular combines the best
Italian cucina by acclaimed Venetian chef Michel Granziera,
with an evening of fabulous operatic entertainment by Opera d’Amici.
Soprano Hannah Kirk, above (D’Oyly Carte), tenor Jim Heath (Scottish
Opera, English Festival Opera, London City Opera) and pianist Peter
Bailey will delight diners with excerpts from La Boheme,
La Traviata, Turandot, Rigoletto, Die
Fledermaus and other classics.
This wonderful evening will take place in the
stunning new Avista Restaurant at the Millennium Hotel London Mayfair.
It will begin at 7pm with a glass of Champagne, followed by a delicious
four-course meal with wine and coffee, to the accompaniment of three
20-minute sets of operatic arias.
Avista is already winning plaudits from the Italian cognoscenti
and has been awarded two rosettes from the AA Food Guide. Chef Granziera’s
cucina is authentic and excellent and
the new restaurant decor is beautiful.
The evening costs Members £65 (usually
£75), for the entire meal, half a bottle of wine each and coffee, including VAT and preferential seating.
If you live outside London, then why not turn
this into a luxury weekend? Members pay £132 per night (RR
£428) for two sharing a Classic double or twin room at the
Millennium Mayfair, including full English breakfast, VAT and high-speed
internet access, with a free upgrade subject to availability on
arrival.
To book, call Member Services on 020 7935 0888 or click here.

Private visit to the Cabinet War Rooms
and Churchill Museum
We have arranged with the Imperial War Museum
to host our Members for a private guided tour of the historic Cabinet
War Rooms and Churchill Museum in London. Places on our first visits
have already been snapped up by Members, so we have arranged an
additional visit next Friday, June 19, at 2.30pm.
Usually visitors can view the rooms only through
glass partitions, but you will walk into the rooms, absorbing a
deeper understanding of how the Second World War was conducted at
perhaps the gravest period in our island history.
The tour includes the War Cabinet Room, perfectly
preserved since 1945, and the Map Room, which was the central hub
of operations. Members can explore the details up close—from
the sugar ration discovered when preparing to open the Cabinet War
Rooms, to the thousands of tiny pinholes in the maps.
Our senior guide will be of the highest standard:
indeed, he will be one of those who are regularly requested by Ministry
of Defence senior officers for themselves and visiting dignitaries.
Afterwards you will be treated to a lecture — ‘Churchill’s
Finest Hour’ — for some 45 minutes in the lecture room,
followed by full afternoon tea. At the end of the visit you will
receive a Churchill memento to mark the occasion.
The cost will be £63 per Member and the
event is limited to 15 guests, ensuring uninterrupted viewing and
personal attention. Please book now by calling
Member Services on 020 7935 0888. If you wish to stay overnight,
we will be delighted to arrange this.
