Dear CountryClubuk Member

Stunning 27-carat aquamarine and diamond bracelet: £5,595

When we first saw this exquisite diamond bracelet in Hatton Garden we could not wait to show it to you. It is exceptional. Designed by an internationally regarded jeweller, it contains no fewer than 24 superb sky blue aquamarines and 288 diamonds, all high quality natural gemstones set in 18ct white gold and fully hallmarked in England.

The gems weigh more than 27 carats. The effect of these scintillating sky blue stones and their flashing high-grade diamonds is altogether magnificent: like wearing 24 diamond rings!

The precious gemstones used in this piece are of exceptional weight, clarity and quality: many international jewellers would use one-third to half this weight of gems in a bracelet, and still charge a great deal more. It would sell in Bond Street for twice the retail price we record here, and through the Club it is therefore an eye-wateringly good deal.

The natural, beautifully hand cut aquamarines, weighing a total of 24.79 carats, are beautiful clean stones, flawless to the naked eye. They are set within clusters of almost 3 carats of brilliant cut diamonds of F colour—one of the three best colours that a diamond can be—with a quality grade of VS1, which again means that they are flawless to the eye.

As you can probably tell, we are excited by this glorious bracelet, and if you would like to own it, please let us know soon as there is of course only one and it will not be with us for long! It carries an insurance valuation certificate at the full retail price, and of course a full moneyback guarantee. Code AB30GA03. RRP £11,595. CCUK £5,595. Order 24.79 Carat Sky Blue Aquamarine and 2.76 Carat Diamond and 18ct White Gold Bracelet.

Six of the best new silk ties for summer: Club price, £15

A man needs a new silk tie for summer. For one thing, women notice ties, so it's no good hanging on to the same old faithful and thinking nobody will notice. It's why the designers spend so long creating them, and the literary greats have long known that the tie maketh the man.

Ian Fleming put James Bond into a knitted silk number, just like the ones pictured above (and re-issued this season by J Crew and Ralph Lauren). Somerset Maugham, who expounded on the subject in The Razor's Edge, wore striped silk.

So, from classic knitted silk to stripes and paisley, from Lauren to Crew to Louis Vuitton, here are eight of the best, perfect for city suits to blazers and linen, from white shirt to denim—and a Club El Snippo. Usually up to £45 a tie, Members pay £15. Top row: Knitted silk straight cut tie in gold, black, burgundy. Code KT01SA05. Order. Left, Navy and Red Paisley. Code PT01SA05. Order. Stripes (woven silk). Code ST15SA05: Navy, silver, turquoise (left). Lower: Navy, red, white (left); olive, blue, brown (centre); Navy, silver, yellow (right). RRP £45. CCUK £15. Order.

Hardy Angel 2, the world famous trout and salmon reels

Hardy is the world’s pre-eminent fly rod and reel maker. As such this fine British company is constantly innovating, improving and updating. Some thought it a bold move, even for Hardy, to attempt to improve its original Hardy Angel reels. After all, the Angel has long been one of Hardy's best-selling reels, a favourite on rivers and on stillwaters. But the experts at Hardy knew exactly what they were doing, and they have improved the internal and external construction of the Hardy Angel 2 reels to bring real benefits when fishing.

Redesigning the clutch housing means a tool-less left-right conversion takes only seconds instead of minutes, the concealed check system improves the already trusted and dependable Rulon drag, and a new all-metal handle with a reverse screw fitting increases strength and durability.

The Angel 2 is applauded by the experts as a superb reel made better. The new range goes from 2/3 weight (perfect for brooks) to the 11/12 weight (which handles the biggest salmon). A complete range for every situation, and our flyfishers enjoy an exclusive Club price (Members-only please).

Five-star sea-view suite in a Quinta in Madeira, over 50% off

Madeira’s sub-tropical flora, gentle climate and rich history have delighted travellers for centuries. Just off the coast of Africa, not far from the Canary Islands, there is a picture-postcard scene everywhere you look, the food and wines are delicious, local life maintains its traditions and festivities, and for walkers it is a dream come true, thanks to the historic levada network. Added to which you can stay, not in an hotel but a Quinta, Madeira’s hidden hideaways, which turn a holiday into a grand and gracious way of life.

The Bay of Funchal twinkles below as you relax in comfort on on the private balcony of your suite.

The Chandra Spa offers a Turkish bath, Jacuzzi and a bevy of treatments, and you can swim in the indoor heated pool or the outdoor infinity pool, then relax in the sunshine. This is a place to relax, and when you want to take in the sights of Funchal, it is a 10-minute stroll (or take the hotel taxi).

The first Members to book can enjoy our exclusive Blue Ribbon deal, staying in a 50 sq metre Deluxe Sea View Suite for up to three guests, for five nights, including breakfast. The suite has a large bedroom, en-suite bathroom, balcony overlooking the sea, separate sitting area, free wifi, cable TV, bathrobes, slippers, toiletries, and air conditioning.

Herdwick mutton from the Langdale Pikes in Lakeland

We have Beatrix Potter to thank for our new Herdwick Langdale Pikes Mutton Hamper. Mutton takes us back to the Sunday lunches of yesteryear—a delicious taste that is difficult to find today—and if Ms Potter had not bought up the farms of Lakeland with the royalties from her Peter Rabbit books, and insisted that Herdwicks were raised on them, it is unlikely they would have survived.

countryHerdwicks are amazing. One of our oldest native breeds, farmed in only a small area of western Lakeland, they are highly distinctive and attractive: born black, with white heads and legs, their wool becomes grey as they age (and knits into a warm, water-resistant sweater). Herdwicks are also ultra-hardy and independent, hefting to the high Lakeland hills that are not only England’s highest, roughest terrain but also have the country’s highest rainfall.

The Herdwick’s natural diet on these high slopes, of grass, lichen, Lakeland wild bilberry and heather, produces meat that is dark, fine-grained, succulent, lean and tender, with a slightly gamey flavour that is also rich, almost sweet. Roaming wild on these hills, they are not forced to grow quickly but allowed to develop at their own pace, and when you factor in the proper hanging times, the results are delicious.

skewSo special is the Herdwick that the meat is now stamped as genuine Herdwick (to prevent imposters). It was served at Queen Elizabeth II’s Coronation Dinner in 1953, and now even the scientists have waded in: a scientific study from Bristol University claims to have proved scientifically that the taste and texture of Herdwick meat is superior to that from lowland breeds.

Our suppliers are Eric and Sue Taylforth, of Millbeck Farm, Herdwick specialists with a good, old-fashioned attitude to animal husbandry, discovered by our Rick Stein 'Food Heroes', Jeannie and Rachel at Alternative Meats. Millbeck Farm nestles beneath the famous Langdale Pikes, a 250-acre working Lakeland hill farm owned by the National Trust. The Taylforths' Herdwick herd graze the Langdale Pikes above their farm, and the mutton is delicious: rich yet delicately flavoured, and, as they say themselves, ‘not mass-produced nor factory farmed, but slow matured—it is ready, when it is ready’.

Happily, mutton is enjoying a revival in Britain, thanks largely to HRH the Prince of Wales. Since he founded the Mutton Renaissance Club this flavoursome meat appears regularly on menus at leading London restaurants including The Ritz, where head chef John Williams serves mutton every two weeks. Boiled mutton and caper sauce used to be part of our national diet—the Prince of Wales says it is his favourite dish, and many agree. Click here for The Ritz recipe for roast loin of mutton, and more, but meanwhile order some of this succulent Millbeck Farm Herdwick mutton to taste it for yourself. It costs you £58, but the real value of the hamper is well over £100.

Our Langdale Pikes Herdwick Mutton Hamper weighs a total 6.7kg (about half a Herdwick) and comprises: a 2kg leg of mutton joint; 2.5kg shoulder of mutton joint; loin rack of mutton for that delicious Ritz recipe (minimum 1kg); 2 chump steaks (total 400g); 1 x 300g pack of diced mutton neck for braising (delicious with lemon and thyme); 500g breast of mutton joint. Code HM01AM01. RRP £70 or more. CCUK £58. Order Langdale Pikes Herdwick Mutton Hamper.

Smart new Spanish cedar-lined cigar case in black leather

For a man who loves a cigar, and needs to keep one or two with him while at work or travelling, out for the evening or on the golf course, here is the smart answer. The important thing is to keep them in top condition, and the way to do that is of course to make sure the cigar case is robust yet light and lined in Spanish cedar, the same wood as the best humidors. So our experts have selected a new, high-quality Spanish cedar-lined three-finger case from specialist makers, which will safely store up to three cigars.

Well made using best quality materials, this very smart case is finished in black leather with stitching detail and looks good as well as doing the job to perfection. To season, simply place the open case in your humidor for 24 hours before use to allow the Spanish cedar wood interior to absorb moisture. It will then be perfectly conditioned for short-term storage of your cigars.

The larger case is suited to medium length cigars with a larger ring gauge, eg Robusto, No 2, Siglo VI. External dimensions 13.4cm x 7.5cm x 3.9cm. Code RC01SH02. RRP £25.95. CCUK £19.95. Order Robusta Leather Three-Finger Spanish Cedar-Lined Cigar Case. Petit Corona size. External dimensions 13.4cm x 6.8cm x 3cm. Code PC01SH02. RRP £23.95. CCUK £17.95. Brilliant blue turquoise Anasazi Necklace for Summer 2011

necklaceThe brilliant blue of our new turquoise Anasazi Necklace makes a serious splash for Summer 2011, and we really love it!

Turquoise, that delightful robin’s egg blue gemstone worn by Pharoahs and Aztec kings, is probably one of the oldest gemstones known. Here it becomes a fashion item, its chunky end-on turquoise discs giving a thoroughly modern twist.

These discs, combined with round beads and irregular pieces, all bearing the natural weblike turquoise markings, create a lively yet ladylike look.

This is the go-to necklace for summer—perfect for high days and holidays. Partner with a silky black blouse or top to lift the tone, or combine with powerful cobalt for an all-blue hue, or team with bright coral to make a gorgeous accent shade, and of course the classic clean cool white. This lovely necklace is 30in (76cm) long. Code AN14CC04. RRP £75. CCUK £43. Order Anasazi Turquoise Necklace.

For Members who enjoy caviar, we have sought the best alternatives to wild Caspian Sea caviar—and not only do we believe we have found some, but the price from the Club is extremely advantageous (a 50g pot is only £69!).

As you know, Caspian Sea sturgeon numbers are in decline. The only real solution is farmed caviar. The question for aficionados is of course: Is it good enough? Our specialists have tested many brands, and Calvisius caviar is acknowledged by connoisseurs as excellent.

With its large, 3mm dark to light brown eggs, the caviar is fresh, not pasteurised, and neither too oily nor bitter nor bland. It has the ‘pop’, the glistening grey colour and the buttery, nutty flavour of wild caviar. It is not Beluga: even the cleverest fish farmers have yet to succeed in rearing Beluga to maturity in captivity (they eat one another). But it has outdone some wild caviar in blind test conditions.

It is ‘malossol caviar’, which means ‘with little salt’. This makes it good for human health.

Choose from the following weights: 50g pot (1-2 servings). RRP £135. CCUK £69. Order.
Two 50g pots (up to 4 servings). RRP £260. CCUK £129. Order.

Flash frozen Rougié foie gras used by Michelin chefs: only £49 for 1kg

We are delighted to have delicious new supplies of highly recommended foie gras from French gastronomy experts for Members—even double-Michelin-starred chefs use this fabulous foie gras. It makes serving the very finest pan-fried foie gras quick, easy—and foolproof. And through the Club it is a real El Snippo!

Specialist chefs from the House of Rougié in Perigord expertly prepare highest-quality foie gras lobes (not easy for non-experts). These are then flash-frozen and heat-sliced into near-perfect equal portions. The foie gras retains not only its fresh taste but its structure, and therefore it cooks evenly and reduces very little in the cooking.

It is immensely easy and quick to prepare—and always on hand in the freezer for last-minute meals for unexpected guests, a boon in summer and for those who have an instant gourmet dinner party in mind. It is ready in minutes.

Simply pan-fry in a medium-hot pan (no fat needed) for about 45 seconds on either side, and you have a perfect Seared Foie Gras starter.

Each 50g slice is enough for one, and you can re-seal and store in the freezer for up to a year.

1kg Rougié Flash-Frozen Foie Gras (sliced into 20 x 50g portions). RRP £90. CCUK £49. Order. Please tell us on what day you can receive delivery (Tuesday-Friday).

Succulent suckling pig from Cheshire, £79

Here is the rare chance to serve traditional suckling pig—that deliciously flavoured, succulent, melt-in-the-mouth meat with its crispy skin, roasted to a deep gold. It is probably the best pork you and your guests will ever taste, and roasting it at home is very easy.

Not to be confused with the very small Spanish or European versions of suckling pig, each of our British pigs weighs 9-10kg, easily serving a party of 15. They are Large Whites, sourced from Cheshire by Rick Stein ‘food heroes’ Jeanette and Rachel of Alternative Meats (see also the new Herdwick Mutton Hamper, left).

Delicious when slow roasted, the pre-scored suckling pig skin produces that crispy, golden crackling, the meat succulent, sweet and tender. They will fit in an Aga or domestic oven. You can feed up to 15, or a smaller party since the leftovers are delicious cold.

Whole suckling pig. Length 20in (51cm), weight 7-8kg. Code SP02AM01. RRP £98.99. CCUK £79. Order.

Whole suckling pig, prepared (head and feet off). Length 20in (51cm), weight 7-8kg. Code SP01AM01. RRP £103.99. CCUK £85. Order.

2010 Bordeaux En Primeur: try a case or two to put down

Since the start of the release of the 2010 Bordeaux, our wine experts have been a little cautious, and so they remain. Prices are up—some of them stratospherically so—like Les Pagodes de Cos at £480, which is 60% higher than the price at which you can buy the 2005 today.

However, the full story is—like the curate’s egg—good in parts. For Club Members who do like to buy a couple of cases a year, here are some handpicked deals which our experts do consider fair—so no Pagodes!

Prices are In Bond lying at London City Bond.
Ch. Haut Batailley, 5eme Cru Pauillac 2010 £330. Ch. Pontet Canet, 5eme Cru Pauillac 2010 £1,200. Echo de Lynch Bages, Pauillac 2010 £310.
