A Private Opera Event is a special occasion—and when it features three of international opera's charismatic singers and it is combined with a Private Champagne & Canapé Reception
and Gourmet Four-Course Dinner and Wine Pairing within the glittering surroundings
of the private Marie Antoinette Suite and The Music Room
of The Ritz Hotel in London
, the attraction is even more irresistible

We are delighted to invite our Members to a Private Opera Event in the gilded splendour of The Ritz Hotel, to see and hear the fabulous Kate Symonds-Joy and her husband the renowned tenor Daniel Joy, together with the stylish German-born soprano Miranda Heldt and concert pianist Julian Collings. Guests will be lavishly entertained within two richly decorated and historic private rooms—the soaring 1740s Music Room within Lord Wimborne's former London mansion, and, only steps away, The Ritz's famous Marie Antoinette Suite.

The date of this private event is Wednesday, August 24, and we shall enjoy the Opera Performance, a Champagne & Canapé Reception and a Four-Course Gourmet Dinner with Wines, followed by Coffee & Frivolities. The Guest List is limited to 25 couples and for Members the price is just £215 instead of the full £295.

THREE INTERNATIONAL OPERA SINGERS WILL PERFORM PRIVATELY.

It is impossible not to be entranced by the prospect of this evening of fine art and cuisine, presented within an intimate setting in the style of the fashionable 18th-century 'salons' arranged by wealthy patrons to entertain their guests in the highest style available to them. As such, The Ritz has arranged a spectacular Champagne Reception and a Four-Course Gourmet Dinner of lobster, of fillet and rack of English lamb and all the trimmings, followed by a sublime signature pudding. And each course will be perfectly paired with delicious wines chosen by The Ritz Head Sommelier, Giovanni Ferlito, including a fine 2011 Château Le Puy. This will be an evening to remember!

We shall start with a Champagne & Canapés Reception held beneath the soaring arches of The Ritz Music Room. With its 24-carat gold leaf mouldings and slender Adamesque pilasters, this stately room epitomises the grand and graceful style of Lord Wimborne's former mansion, designed by the famous architect William Kent. After the Reception, we shall be guided to the magnificent salon named after Louis XVI’s Queen Marie Antoinette, where we shall wine and dine. This suite, with its opulent gold leaf and mirrored interior, is an exact replica of a room at the Palace of Versailles. Its classic and graceful style makes it one of London’s most elegant rooms, and we shall enjoy the first three courses (see right for the full glory of Executive Chef John Williams's fine menu), before returning to the Music Room for the opera singing to commence.

'STYLISH, EXCITING, ELECTRIFYING': MEZZO-SOPRANO KATE SYMONDS-JOY.

As to the performers, Kate Symonds-Joy is considered a most charismatic mezzo-soprano (indeed, David Mellor wrote of her in the Mail on Sunday, 'I especially liked Kate Symonds-Joy’s Medea … she is blessed with a stage presence that almost stole the show as she strode about in tight jodhpurs, cracking her whip and looking every bit as sexy as a character out of Jilly Cooper’s Riders'). Other critics have singled her out as 'outstanding', 'stylish and exciting', and 'electrifying'.

DANIEL JOY: GORGEOUS ARIAS, 'A PROPER TENOR, A PLEASURE TO HEAR'.

Fresh from a concert performance of Verdi's 'Requiem' at the Royal Albert Hall, and a tour of France in Rigoletto, Daniel Joy is a celebrated tenor with a powerful, expressive style. Of his performance in Rigoletto, opera critic Charlotte Valori called Joy 'a convincingly red-blooded sensualist ... leaving us in no doubt whatever of his intentions through the thrilling physicality of his performance . . . Verdi spoils the Duke rotten with gorgeous tenor arias, and Joy gives us every hit number with deft exuberance, powerfully characterised.' Her fellow reviewer writes, 'A proper tenor is a pleasure to hear.. . Daniel Joy had all I was looking for.'

GERMAN SOPRANO MIRANDA HELDT: 'ENOUGH POWER TO FILL A ROOM … '

These fine singers will be matched by the award-winning German-born English lyric soprano Miranda Heldt. As critic Alexandra Hamilton-Ayres writes of her as Dido, 'Heldt demonstrates control with enough power to fill the room. The lower notes were particularly resonant and warming giving her a certain identity as a character and a voice. She presented the opposing moods of tenderness and tragedy with a refined stage presence as the leading lady.'

CONCERT PIANIST JULIAN COLLINGS: 'CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED'.

These fabulous opera singers will be accompanied by a leading concert pianist in Julian Collings. All have performed around the world, and their virtuosity will enthral you with a selection of solo, duet and ensemble pieces as they perform in close proximity to their guests—an experience seldom achieved—the mood of this extravaganza set by the exquisite surroundings, fine cuisine and wines of The Ritz Hotel. And of course The Ritz is the only London hotel to have been awarded a Royal Warrant from HRH the Prince of Wales, a known admirer of the haute cuisine which we shall enjoy at this fabulous event.

MAGNIFICENT 4-COURSE GOURMET DINNER

The Champagne Reception will be followed by a delicious Gourmet Four-Course Dinner designed by The Ritz's world-famous Executive Chef John Williams MBE, the Menu chosen to reflect both the season and the occasion, and paired with gorgeous wines selected by the Head Sommelier, Giovanni Ferlito.

WINES SELECTED FOR US BY THE RITZ HEAD SOMMELIER.

Dinner will be served in the magnificent salon named after Louis XVI’s Queen Marie Antoinette. This suite, with its gold leaf and mirrored interior, is a replica of a room at the Palace of Versailles. Its graceful, classic style makes it one of London’s most elegant private rooms.

The first course will open on a high note: lobster. Chef will prepare the succulent and sweet Native Lobster with Tomato, Broad Bean Flower and Chives.

This lobster dish will be served with its ideal match—a gorgeous 2014 Albariño, Pazo de Barrantes, Rias Baixas: together, a taste sensation.

The next course will present seafood fit for a king—Brill, served with Cornish Crab, Grapes and Champagne sauce, and paired with a beautifully creamy 2013 Chardonnay from Napa Valley, California, the Freemark Abbey—again, a perfect pairing.

As for the main course in this culinary establishment once ruled by the famous Escoffier himself, we shall enjoy tender, succulent Fillet and Rack of Lamb with Basil, Courgette and Black Olive Jus, served with a fabulous 2011 Château Le Puy 'Emilien' from the Côtes de Francs, a supple, silky wine which is drinking beautifully.

The lamb will be cooked to perfection and its pairing is a gorgeous wine described by connoisseurs as 'the epitomy of elegance and refinement' from an historic château run by the Amoreau family since 1610.

The finishing of the main course marks the moment for music to begin! You will be guided to The Music Room to enjoy the Opera Performance (see left), and as the last cries of 'Bravo!' echo through the Music Room your waiters will be ready for your arrival in the Marie Antoinette Suite, to serve one of The Ritz's perfect puddings—Kentish Strawberries, Vanilla Mousse and Yoghurt Sorbet, served with 2013 Moscato d'Asti 'I Vignaioli di Santo Stefano' from Ceretto, Piedmont, its delicious flavours creating a taste sensation with the strawberry and vanilla flavours of the chef's sweet creation.

The finalé will arrive in the form of your choice of coffees, teas and herbal infusions, and 'frivolities' to while away the last fleeting moments of the evening. Carriages at 11pm.
