and on the prestigious Cartier Queen's Cup Finals Day, Sunday June 18,
in the presence of HM The Queen,
with Champagne Lunch by Mosimann's in Guards Clubhouse

We are delighted to announce an invitation for our Members to enjoy the prestigious Cartier Queen’s Cup at Guards Polo Club, Smith's Lawn, Windsor. This is the jewel in the crown of English polo, one of the world’s top five polo tournaments and a quintessentially English sporting day. The Cartier Queen’s Cup attracts the world’s best players and encapsulates the best of the British Season. This 22-goal tournament runs for six weeks, climaxing with the Semi-Finals and the Finals, when HM The Queen historically presents her trophy to the winning team.
Guards Polo Club is inviting our Members to attend this, the first official High Goal Tournament of the season, for the Semi-Finals (this year on Wednesday, June 14) and the Finals (Sunday, June 18), when HM The Queen is again expected to attend with other Members of the Royal Family.

The Cartier Queen's Cup is polo at its best. It will be a thrilling sporting occasion—the Semi Finals offering a long day of perhaps the greatest sporting challenges, and the Finals offering a sensational climax as well as one of the social highlights of the year. Players and guests travel across the world to be there.

Of all the polo clubs in England, none is quite so prestigious and highly regarded as Guards, nor, it seems, quite so spacious and beautifully tended—this is, after all, 'home club' to The Queen, who presented her Cup to the Club in 1960 and in 1986 watched HRH Prince Charles win the trophy with Les Diables Bleus. HRH Prince Philip had to settle for the runners-up spot twice, in 1964 and ’66.

Founded in January 1955, Guards Polo Club was originally named the Household Brigade Polo Club, with Prince Philip as President, a position which he still occupies. The Queen, the Prince of Wales and the Princes William and Harry regularly attend, and Guards Clubhouse was designed by the Prince of Wales, who said of his sport, 'I cannot help feeling that there are few team games in existence to rival polo for sheer excitement, speed and fascination.'

The Queen's Cup is for the very best high-goal players—the world’s number one, Adolfo Cambiaso, has won the most Queen’s Cups—winning his ninth, the 2016 tournament in what the Daily Telegraph called ‘one of the most thrilling denouements in the history of the trophy at Guards Polo Club.’ The Queen’s Cup was the trophy Cambiaso's team, Dubai, most wanted to secure and their opponents La Indiana 'suffered the heartache of drawing level only for the renowned 10-goal master to score a last-gasp penalty to thwart a brilliant second half performance by the newcomers.’

Cambiaso will be back this year in another record attempt, part of a lineup of 10 of the top international teams including the world’s—and England’s—great players. All of this, and more, means that this year’s Cartier Queen’s Cup will be a thriller. It will not only be a feast of sport, but of glamour—the Queen’s Cup, particularly the Final, attracts more than its share of high-profile guests—and a feast in its real sense, the new chefs at Guards this season are from the famous Mosimann’s in London, ensuring even greater culinary delights for us in Guards Clubhouse.

You are invited to be there on the two best days of the tournament: the Semi-Finals on the Wednesday will be all about the polo, with a jolly good Mosimann's Champagne lunch. The atmosphere will be relaxed, filled with pleasure and good humour as well as exhilarating sporting pace and achievement as the teams battle for a place in the Finals. Sunday's Finals are of course the climax of the tournament in every way—sport, social, glamour and Royal attendance. There is also a difference in the style of wining and dining—and you as a CountryClubuk Member will enjoy exactly the same as Guards Polo Club Members themselves, thereby giving you preferential rates and status. Here are the details:
