Cruise to Cape Horn, Patagonia
Cape Horn is part of every child’s historic imaginings, an adventure peopled by the great explorers: Magellan, Darwin, Drake and more. A mountainous rock at the world’s end, Cape Horn is Earth’s last spit of land beyond which the two great oceans, Atlantic and Pacific, clash in a maelstrom of surging seas, towering waves, fierce wind, ice and snow. The ‘furious fifties’, as the winds of the 50th parallel southern latitudes are called (Cape Horn is at 55° 58′ 47″ S), are legendary, and—squeezed by the Andes and the Antarctic Peninsula—they give rise to equally fearsome waves. In the days of sail, thousands of seamen perished attempting to round Cape Horn before the Panama Canal offered safe passage.

At the time this meant trade—cargoes of spices and grain, and whaling. Now it means recreation—yachtsmen still test their skills and endurance by sailing round the Horn, hoping to join the ranks of Cape Horners, whose successful voyage entitles them to hoist a leg on the table at dinner and wear a gold earring.. . . . . more

Remota Patagonia Lodge, Chile
Less than three hours' drive from where the Cape Horn cruise embarks lies Remota Patagonia Lodge—and chance for sporting flyfishers to fish the clear mountain streams, rivers and lakes for the renowned wild brown trout of Patagonia. These fat, muscular, hard-fighting trout offer superlative fishing in pristine waters—but, even beyond fishing, the magic of the whole experience is unsurpassed. All who have read Bruce Chatwin's great book 'In Patagonia' will know what this means.

Remota is not only about fishing—though it offers the cream of sport. This celebrated hotel designed by famous Chilean architect Germán del Sol is an intriguing escape set in spectacular scenery above Last Hope Sound. Here you can enjoy breathtaking views at every turn in a hotel flooded with light; floor-to-ceiling windows bring in vast views of sky, water and distant mountains. Bedrooms are generous, light-filled and fragrant with lenga wood; even the bathrooms have mind-blowing vistas. And as to the restaurant—Patagonian delicacies, Chilean wines and pisco sours are all included. . . . more

The Singular Hotel, Patagonia, Chile
The insides of an old sheep processing plant make an unconventional foyer for a Leading Hotel of the World—but this is merely the opening scene in an almost art-gallery installation of industrial art married to five-star luxury in the rugged beauties of Chilean Patagnoia.

This, the Singular Hotel, is an extraordinary five-star establishment created by leading international hoteliers, which is a true original. It stands on the shores of the Last Hope fjord, near the scenic town of Puerto Natales and the world famous Torres del Paine National Park, and to stay here is an experience in luxury, Art and Nature. . . . more
